The Inner Citadel > *"Begin the morning by saying to thyself, I shall meet with the busybody, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial… For we are made for co-operation, like feet, like hands, like eyelids."* > — Marcus Aurelius, *Meditations* 2.1 (George Long) ## Micro-Lesson The Stoic day begins **before** the day begins. Marcus rehearsed the difficult people he would meet — not to dread them, but to meet them already prepared. You will do the same: a 60-second anticipation of the day's frictions, paired with the intention to meet them as a co-operator, not a victim. This is the Morning Shield. It is non-negotiable from today forward. ## Exercise (10 min) Tomorrow, before you open any app, write in the journal: 1. **Three frictions I expect today** (people, meetings, delays). 2. **The role I intend to play in each** (calm, just, present). 3. **One thing that is truly mine to do today** — the day's anchor task. ## Journal Prompt If I could choose one quality to carry into every meeting tomorrow, what would it be — and what would I have to drop to carry it? {{}}
